First Text in Game Development Series Now Available

Jones & Bartlett Learning is pleased to announce the release of a new text titled, Fundamentals of Game Development, written by game development industry veterans Heather Maxwell Chandler and Rafael Chandler.

Using examples and exercises, it provides a hands-on approach that walks the reader through the entire process of developing a game from concept to completion. The book covers the basic topics discussed in an introductory text as well as history, game genres, design, story-telling, character creation, pre-production, code release, career descriptions, and more.  An accompanying CD-ROM, included with new copies of the text, contains blank versions of all the templates and forms discussed in the book, samples of game development documentation, images from actual games (e.g. Star Trek Online), and game demos.

“This text is unique because it provides the practical aspects of the processes involved in developing and completing game projects,” said David Pallai, Publisher and editor for the series.

This is the first text in a new series from the publisher titled Foundations of Game Development.  The series will consist of texts covering the key concepts and technical instruction students need to complete their game development curriculum as well as provide them with the industry knowledge to be successful professional game developers, programmers, producers, and designers.
